Letter: Louise Woodward

Sir: Referring to Judge Hiller Zobel's "controversial" article in American Heritage magazine, David Usborne suggests (4 November) that Zobel believes that the jury system is flawed. In fact his article was an endorsement of the jury system. Zobel wrote, "Perhaps the jury, to paraphrase what Churchill once said of democracy, is the worst mechanism for trying cases, except for any alternative".
