Letter: Misplaced blame for waiting lists
Sir: The article by Judy Jones 'Consultants 'must share blame for waiting lists' ' (7 September), implies that the length of
the waiting lists is connected
with the preponderance of doc-
tors on the General Medical Council (although a minority
of these doctors are hospital consultants).
This observation is as relevant as suggesting that the number of people awaiting trial for criminal offences is caused by having barristers on the Bar Council.
The only way to shorten waiting lists is either to spend more on health care (as has been done in Germany) or to reduce standards to that of Hungary.
Yours faithfully,
