YOUR TRAVEL correspondent Kevin Pilley needn't have travelled all the way to France to experience the majesty of the Bayeux tapestry at first hand ("Stitching up my relatives", Travel, 15 August). He could have brought his family to the Museum of Reading (30 minutes from London Paddington), which has on permanent display the only full-sized replica of the tapestry in the world. The replica, a Victorian copy, is identical in size and detail to the original, excepting where the modesty of the ladies who stitched it dictated that they cover a naked man (visible in the border) with shorts.
