Letter: More than twins
Sir: When your erudite correspondents have finally decided how many alternatives are permitted by the rules of grammar, logic and decency, would they please turn their attention to twins?
How can a town possibly be twinned with two others, as so many roadside signs now claim? 'Tripletted with' is too pedantic, and likely to lead to the intolerable 'quadrupletted'.
Are there any alternatives?
Yours faithfully,
