Letter: Mourning class
Joan Smith says that the media reaction to Diana's death was excessive ( 21 September). This is quite contrary to my experience here. There were red eyes to be seen in the streets before the funeral, and I know several people who signed the local book of condolences. On the bus, total strangers said to me: "What a shame about Diana". Nobody has yet expressed Joan Smith's viewpoint. Normally I don't like to mention the C-word. But could it be that the different experiences of Smith and myself are due to the different social classes we move in?
