Letter: Not so stuffy

Sir: In her article on the University Women's Club ('The comfort of a frumpy chair', 13 August), Esther Oxford was correct in her facts: we are housed in a red-brick building; we do have close on 1,500 members of many ages and professions; we do have male guests. The editor of another distinguished newspaper once wrote: 'Comment is free but facts are sacred', so we say nothing of Ms Oxford's opinions, except we feel that we are less stuffy than she suggests.

Some of your readers may like to see the club for themselves and perhaps even meet the original Fat Chap and Miss Prim. I should be happy to show them around.
