Letter: Passing reference

Sir: Driving around the very narrow streets in this area, I frequently pull over to allow oncoming cars to pass, but I estimate that only one driver in five makes any sign of thanks. My observations suggest that drivers of vans are rather more likely to do so, and taxi drivers and women - especially older women - much the least likely.

Are these bad manners confined to London, or are they now the usual thing?

Yours faithfully,
