Letter: Pay rise taxes the public's patience

Sir: So MPs have voted themselves large increases in their tax-free allowances in order, as one MP said on the radio this morning, to provide a 'proper service to their constituents' (report, 15 July).

When are they going to do the same for me? I, too, have 'constituents' to serve - my children. At the moment, however, I have to pay for their care out of my taxable income.

Yours faithfully,

JANE HANSELL
