Letter: Proms: choral chauvinism or jolly good fun?

Sir: Your article about the Last Night of the Proms ('Soloist injects Welsh note into Proms finale', 12 September) refers to 'English patriotism'.

The Union Jack is the flag of Great Britain and 'Rule Britannia' also refers to Great Britain. England is merely a part of the Union. Britannia was able to rule the waves with the support of the Royal Navy, composed of Scots, Welsh, Irish and English.

When will England stop offending the rest of Great Britain by assuming that it alone owns the Union Jack?

Yours sincerely,

MARGARET HENRY
