LETTER: Rationalism and milk-sniffing

From Mr A. Chatterjee

Sir: Randhir Singh Bains is wrong in implying that the Asian Nobel laureate, Rabinder Nath Tagore, as a "deeply religious man", would have gone along with the milk-sniffing that is going on in Hindu temples and homes. More spiritual than religious, Tagore in fact belonged to a sect of Hinduism which eschews idolatry and pantheism. A great admirer of Western rationalism, he struggled (vainly) all his life against the sort of nonsense that is currently happening.

Yours faithfully,

A. Chatterjee
