Letter: Redwood wins,either way

From Mr George Corston

Sir: Your leading article "The Tory Party in search of a new vision" (24 June) states:

The other way of reading this leadership contest is that the Tories are in trouble because they have dared to put their finger on an issue that deeply troubles the nation: the unresolved issue of what we want Britain to stand for in Europe.

Europe certainly troubles the Tory Party, but the majority of people I speak to do not consider Europe the main issue.

We are more concerned with the NHS, social services, education and law and order. Perhaps that is what the leadership contest should be about - or much better, these should be the issues of an early general election.

Yours faithfully,

George Corston
