Letter: Reform of the honours system is a mixed blessing

Sir: Two cheers for John Major. Though it does not go far enough, his reform of the honours list is a step in the right direction. But why keep the MBE, in which B stands for British and E for Empire? Who would wish to be a member of something that has long ceased to exist?
