Sir: Noella Smith is wrong to suggest that 'eating and drinking within sight of a palace (is) something that can only be enjoyed in a republic' (Letter, 5 May).

Tucked just inside Green Park, directly opposite Buckingham Palace, is a tastefully painted refreshment kiosk.

A notice attached to the counter advertises 'British Hot Dogs in the Royal Parks'.

Yours faithfully,
