LETTER: Stephen Fry's two options

From Ms Marina Keet

Sir: My husband and I have lived in many countries, among them the United States, Sweden, South Africa and Italy, and never have we read such a vicious press as that in Britain. In all my 12 years in the US, I found only respect for artists and thoughtful criticism. Well-directed and constructive criticism is always welcome.

When I first started writing about ballet, Elsa Brunellschi, London's well-known Spanish dance teacher, said, "Remember, with a stroke of your pen, you can destroy a life's work." This is obviously what has happened to Stephen Fry. He has my sincerest sympathy.

Yours sincerely,

London, SW19
