Sir: If, by being "rude and vulgarly arrogant", Jeffrey Archer betrayed his true character to Bryan Appleyard (5 September), during their one telephone call, and the article itself gave an accurate insight into Bryan Appleyard's nature, it was probably a well-balanced conversation.
