Letter: The brass neck above the ivory parapet
FAY WELDON's reply to your Opinions question, 'Is it worth going to university?' (Real Life, 19 July), is offensive for those of us not fortunate enough to have had a university education, and typical of someone cosseted in her own cosy, superior, literary ex-university world.
She claims that 'the company of an educated person is far pleasanter than that of someone uneducated'. Although I attended only a secondary school, I do not consider myself to be 'uneducated'. And my company is more interesting (I'm not sure what she means by 'pleasanter') than a lot of people I know who attended university.
