Letter: Unfair play
MAY I clarify one aspect of your excellent piece on the sad plight of British sport (21 November). The National Playing Fields Association recommends there should be at least three acres of playing pitches for every thousand population, adults and children. The minimum of six acres you refer to includes other recreational space such as tennis courts, greens, tracks and playgrounds.
There are actually regulations on the minimum amount of playing fields schools should have according to their rolls. The NPFA believes they should be strengthened; unfortunately, the Government is considering dropping them altogether.
