Letter: Vicar: a good word for both men and women

Sir: Why the fuss? Professor, doctor, judge, barrister, solicitor - all apply to either gender; so why not bishop, priest, deacon, rector, vicar? What's the problem? Even 'parson' only means 'person' - much in use by the politically correct, as in 'spokesperson'. God help us]

Yours faithfully,

JOHN L. CHATER

Rector

St Marylebone Parish Church
