Letter: Why it is wrong to look down on Rockwell

Sir: May I heartily endorse everything Peter Pringle said in his column ('What's wrong with apple pie?', 7 February) about Norman Rockwell. Those critics who claim that Rockwell was not a true artist should, as a reward for their snooty attitude, be forced to attend daily exhibitions of black canvases, broken bricks and other examples of the 'art' they pretend to admire.

I treasure among my possessions a book containing all of Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post covers (a 50th birthday present from my wife). Yes indeed, a happy, happy centenary to Mr Rockwell]

Yours faithfully,

STAN SNOWDON
