Sir: Anna Coote is stating the obvious when she attributes most of the violence in the world to men. She should have added that most of the great cultural and spiritual developments in the world have also been by men.

Men's greater physical aggression and intellectual creativity must both be Darwinian in origin. Now, however, the hunter/fighter instinct in males is usually superfluous, and one of the world's biggest problems is how to channel it in situations where the traditional controlling authorities have been undermined or removed.
