Sir: Thanks to Reggie Nadelson for reminding us of Dorothy Parker (23 July). I thought she wrote: 'Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses'. All important if you can't wear contact lenses. Did Dorothy Parker have bad eyesight herself, or at least double vision, as in her immortal 'One more drink and I'd have been under the host'?

Yours faithfully,
