Sir: Whatever Margaret Thatcher and the 'little Englanders' might say, the legacy of their actions constitutes one of the strongest arguments in favour of devolving power to Brussels: a tired, divided and rudderless Westminster government with scant regard for the opinion of the electorate.

Even Jacques Delors looks impressive by comparison.
