From Dr D. A. Rothery

Sir: What a pity that during the conference on "Britain in the World" there appears to have been no mention of our world status in the spheres of science and medicine. Declining it may be as the funding dwindles, but thanks partly, no doubt, to the ease with which British scientists are able to publish in the English language, our research can, and should, stand proudly alongside our literature and the BBC World Service as a purveyor of our cultural influence.

Yours faithfully,

DAVID A. ROTHERY

Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
