Sir: In his latest address Prince Charles showed a firm grip of reality, pointing out that polls have shown that the public prizes the countryside second after free speech. But Suzanne Moore seems to begrudge him the latter ("Charles: King of the Legumes", September 20).

What could be more relevant to the present day than to point out that modern farming methods have led to BSE and to the exploitation of farm animals and livestock (such as battery chickens)? Good Duchy of Cornwall products now on sale - cheeses, wine and wheat and oaten biscuits - show that Charles is putting his principles into practice.
