Sir: How refreshing to listen to Tony Blair, and read his apology over the Formula One scandal (report, 17 November). Politicians are human beings - although many of them try hard to conceal the fact. They are fallen, flawed and fallible like the rest of us. Why must they struggle to project an aura of perfection?

Tony Blair has done more to earn the respect of the British public with a two-minute honest apology than all his predecessors with their bluster and evasion of responsibility.
