From Mr Peter Voute Sir: It was good to see a large part of the front page devoted to foxhunting ("Army hunt finds perfect killing ground", 19 December). One particular paragraph, however, needs comment: your correspondent, Danny Penman, writes that "thepractice in most hunts is for a fox to be tossed to the hounds and torn up". The key point here is that the fox is dead if it is given as a reward to the hounds.

Yours faithfully, PETER VOUTE Acting Director British Field Sports Society London, SE1
