Letter: A meaningful slip

IN AN imperfect world one has to allow for the possibility of typographical error, even in the Independent on Sunday. But when Derek Pringle refers to Graham Gooch as a 'batsmean' ('Twilight to limelight', Sport, 15 May) I incline to a theory of inspired coinage. Gooch's economy of generosity may not quite match one of his predecessors among England opening batsmen, but someone who helped deprive us of years of Gower must stand pretty high in the ranks of meanness.
