in "Neanderthal Helms tries to stem the humanoid tide" (10 August) you say that the Neanderthals died out 50,000 years ago; it was in fact nearer 30,000. Their contemporary race was not "humanoid", it was you and me, ie anatomically modern humans; there is no evidence that the Neanderthals' demise was caused by war with us. War doesn't show up until the Neolithic revolution and the beginnings of civilisation and religion around 10,000 years ago.
