YOUR correspondents on the subject of religious education (Letters, 10 July) did not mention that RE is now compulsory in the sixth form. My school has just introduced this subject after a visit from the inspectors. This means I will have to study RE next year, although I am legally entitled to leave school and not be taught anything

at all.

Can anyone tell me why the subject is compulsory in the sixth form? Perhaps the Government is planning to make all 16 to 18-year-olds who have left school come back once a week for RE lessons.
