Letter: Not poisonous

The article "Millennium Dome roof is poisonous" (20 July) implied that we are being irresponsible by using PVC to coat the dome fabric. PVC is a widely used product found in a range of household appliances. It is the safest and most environmentally sound fabric available for the dome and, contrary to the impression given by Greenpeace, no country in the world has banned it or is proposing to phase it out.

The London Fire Brigade are happy with its use. As with most building materials, legal standards are in place to ensure that PVC is used safely. These will be exceeded.
