Trekkies, with Dr Ian Crawford's claim, in the September issue of the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society, that space travellers may, after all, be able one day to travel faster than light, enabling them to boldly go wherever they want.

A bad day for:

Barry Manilow, who was mentioned in a report on viewers' complaints by the Independent Television Commission: "One viewer who complained about a man wearing an artificial penis on his nose in the Big Breakfast was informed that this was not the case and the man was in fact doing an impression of Barry Manilow."
