Borzou Daragahi is International Correspondent for The Independent. He has been covering the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Europe since 2002, with stints in Tehran, Baghdad, Beirut, Cairo, and now Istanbul. He covered the 2003 invasion of Iraq and subsequent civil conflict, the 2006 war in Lebanon, the 2008 conflict in Georgia, the 2009 uprising in Iran, the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings, the 2013 coup in Egypt, the 2014 rise of ISIS and the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. He has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist three times. He serves as a senior non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington think tank.
