Jeff Bridges receives the Cecil B. DeMille Award in recognition of his body of work 'tag you're it'

While accepting his Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes, Jeff Bridges paid tribute to one of his most beloved roles: The Dude.

The 69-year-old played the character in the Coen brothers 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski.

"If I'm lucky I'll be associated with the Dude of rest of my life. I feel so honoured to be a part of that film,” the actor said.

Bridges has become the latest great actor to receive the award, which goes to someone who has had an "incredible impact on the world of entertainment”.

Previous winners include Oprah Winfrey, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Barbra Streisand.

During his acceptance speech, Bridges dedicated the award to his parents, the actors Lloyd Bridges and Dorothy Bridges.

"They loved showbiz so much and I feel an extension of them, you know, this is honouring them as much as it is me,” he said.

Bridges also called on everyone listening to take action and make a difference in the world, adding: ”We are alive. We can really make a difference. We can turn this ship in the way we want to go, man. Towards love. Creating a healthy planet for all of us."

The evening, designed to award the best in film and television, also saw wins for Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel. You can find a full list of winners here.
