Madonna announces new album Madame X

Madonna will perform during the Eurovision Song Contest final in Tel Aviv, it has been confirmed.

The announcement comes after doubts over the show were raised when organisers said she had yet to sign a contract to appear.

However, the pop star was seen arriving in Israel on Tuesday 14 May and has been rehearsing at a secret location, according to reports. An announcement was made confirming the performance shortly before the second semi-final on Thursday.

She will perform two songs: Her new single “Future” featuring US rapper Quavo, and her 1989 hit “Like a Prayer”, which will be backed by a 35-piece choir.

“We are pleased to finally confirm that the incomparable music icon Madonna will join us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest,” said Jon Ola Sand, the event's executive supervisor.

“We know that it will be an evening to remember and can't wait to share it with everyone watching.”

The Eurovision final takes place on Saturday 18 May and will be broadcast on BBC One from 8pm. You can follow all the latest via The Independent’s liveblog on the night.
