YNW Melly arrested: Rapper famous for 'Murder On My Mind' charged with double murder

Murder charges stem from a shooting last year, according to local media

The rapper YNW Melly has been arrested and charged with the murder of two people.

South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the charges stem from a shooting last year, on the 26 October, when two men named Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr were shot dead.

Police in Miramar, Florida, say the rapper, real name Jamell Demons, and Cortlen Henry, who has also been arrested, conspired to make it seem as if the two men were killed in a drive-by shooting.

Williams and Thomas Jr died after being transported to a nearby hospital. Henry was believed to have been driving the vehicle, while Demons allegedly shot the men.

Demons is best known for the track “Murder On My Mind”, the video for which has accumulated over 88 million views on YouTube. Earlier this year, he released the Kanye West collaboration “Mixed Personalities”.

Speaking about growing up in Florida, Demons said: “Growing up in any other little hoe ass place. You know, ain’t nobody want to do nothin’. Everybody stuck in the mud.

“That’s how they family tree is. They don’t even wanna do shit with they life, but get a job and live in a little house. They’ll try to move to Vero, like the good side. Try to move there and then what? Go to college, play football and other shit. Shit don’t never work out. They end up coming right back.”
