Stranger Things Final Trailer

Netflix has revealed that Stranger Things is still its most successful TV show.

The third season of the beloved series was released last Thursday, coinciding with America’s fourth of July celebrations, and more than 40.7m households have watched at least one episode in its first four days – the most-watched in Netflix history.

According to the streaming service, 18.2m have binged all eight episodes.

For comparison, the season two premiere – which became available to stream in October 2017 – averaged 15.8m viewers in the US.

Netflix is enjoying a successful summer. Last month, it released its new Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston film Murder Mystery (the streamer has a four-ear deal with the former), which was viewed by almost 30.9m users in its first three days of release.

This is even more staggering when you consider that Will Smith film Bright was watched by 11m in just as many days upon its release in December 2017 – and that it was considered one of Netflix’s most-watched original titles at the time.

It should be noted that the the service picks and chooses what titles it releases stats for with a view to highlighting its successes.

Stranger Things stars Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.
