Cannes Film Festival opens with zombie movie The Dead Don't Die

Few red carpets can compare to those at Cannes Film Festival, where the glitziest Hollywood players congregate to celebrate the most exciting flicks set for release that year.

While the week-long event is primarily a cinematic affair, it has, in previous years, led to countless memorable fashion moments – think Bella Hadid in that scarlet Alexandre Vauthier gown in 2016, or Susan Sarandon donning her bug-eyed shades with unbridled sass the following year.

Tuesday evening marked the start of this year’s festivities with a star-studded opening ceremony that doubled-up as the premiere of zombie horror flick, The Dead Don’t Die.

Julianne Moore turned heads in a verdant Dior gown while Selena Gomez radiated in a satin two-piece by Louis Vuitton.

Elsewhere, Charlotte Gainsbourg channelled her trademark Parisian “cool girl” aesthetic in a zebra print mini dress by Saint Laurent and Elle Fanning glided down the red carpet in a silky peach Gucci creation.

Over the weekend, Priyanka Chopra stunned in a white tulle wedding gown by Georges Hobeika. The actor accessorised the dress from Hobeika’s Spring 2020 bridal collection with a high ponytail and diamond jewellery.

Earlier in the week, all eyes turned to Rocketman, the highly-anticipated Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton that premiered on Thursday evening with Taylor Hill and Shailene Woodley among the well-dressed attendees.

Friday evening’s screening of Pain and Glory, the latest film from Spanish writer and director Pedro Almodóvar, really saw Cannes out-Cannes itself in terms of fashion, with Penelope Cruz wearing custom-made Chanel and Hadid having another stellar red dress moment, this time courtesy of Roberto Cavalli.

But the latest Cannes event to really turn heads was Tuesday’s screening of Quentin Tarantino’s highly-anticipated film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with star Margot Robbie donning Chanel couture while Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt wore matching tuxedos.
