Golden Globes 2019: Roundup of fashion on the red carpet

Is it a gun holster? Is it a harness? Who cares – it’s Timothee Chalamet, the 23-year-old star of Beautiful Boy, who showed up to the Golden Globes in an all-black ensemble accessorised with a sparkly chest-strap that confounded the internet.

According to Louis Vuitton, who dressed him for the event, the garment was in fact an “embroidered bib”. But this did nothing to assuage the roaring debate over his outfit, with Twitter divided over whether he looked like he was about to go bungee jumping, or deserved praise for wearing “something other than a boring suit”.

Others were quick to point out the resemblance to American figure skater Adam Rippon’s outfit at the Oscars last year, which featured a bondage-themed leather harness under a traditional tuxedo.

Rippon himself seemed to enjoy the actor’s look though, tweeting simply “LOVE” with a link to coverage of Chalamet’s outfit.

Chalamet cemented his status as Hollywood’s most swoon-worthy pretty boy by attending alongside his mother, who was also styled head to toe in Virgil Abloh (artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton).

He posted a photo of the two of them on his Instagram with the caption “momma”, which received hundreds of thousands of likes and almost 15,000 comments.

The actor made history last year, becoming the youngest Best Actor nominee at the Oscars in 80 years for his role as Elio in Call Me By Your Name.

In this year’s Golden Globes, Chalamet was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Beautiful Boy. Despite him being a fan favourite, the award went to Mahershala Ali for Green Book.
