Celine Dion unveils gender-neutral clothing line for children

Celine Dion has launched a gender-neutral clothing line for children.

The five-time Grammy winner has said she hopes her new venture will “encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility”.

The collection, named CELINUNUNU, was unveiled on Tuesday in a short and playful ad starring the singer.

In the short film, we see Dion stealthily break into a maternity ward, with male infants on one side and female infants on the other, clad in blue and pink sleepwear, respectively.

Appearing disgruntled, she blows a handful of black confetti over the babies, which magically replaces their gender-specific clothing with neutral black and white garments.

But before she can spend too long relishing her mystical abilities, the “My heart will go on” singer is caught by security guards, who chase her out of the building and proceed to her to jail.

She teasingly tells them not to worry because she is, in fact, Celine Dion. But her claim to fame does not go down well with the security staff, with one responding by saying, “Yeah girl, and I’m Beyoncé.”

Dion has partnered with unisex children’s brand NUNUNU for the collection, which features more than 70 items of clothing for children of all ages, with sizes running from infancy up to the age of 14.

“I’ve always loved NUNUNU and what they represent,” Dion wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

“Partnering with them to encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility makes so much sense.”

News of the collection has so far been met with praise, with the singer’s tweet garnering more than 9,000 likes.

Dion, who has three sons, has said she tries to avoid enforcing gender stereotypes when it comes to parenting.

Speaking on US network HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” the singer explained how went about this on a trip to Walt Disney World with her kids.

“I thought they were going to go for the big superheroes,” she recalled. “They were looking at princesses. And they all wanted to be Minnie Mouse.

“I end up saying to myself, ‘You know what, it’s OK.’ You know why it’s OK? Because they’re talking, they’re finding themselves.”

With regards to her new brand, Dion added that she’s not trying to tell anyone how to rear their children, but is simply trying to open people’s minds.

“The message I’m trying to get across is you raise your children the way you want to raise your children,” she added.

“You have to decide what’s right for them. We’re just proposing another way to take away the stereotype.”
