Paul Scholes has walked away from his post as manager of Oldham Athletic barely a month after taking charge, claiming he was misled by the club’s hierarchy.
Scholes took over the club he supported as a boy on 11 February, having been cleared by the English Football League following a potential conflict of his interest with his part-ownership of Salford United.
He achieved one win, three draws and two defeats in his brief spell in charge before suddenly walking away on Thursday.
“It is with great regret that I have decided to leave the club with immediate effect,” he said in a statement.
“I hoped to at the very least, see out my initial term of 18 months as the manager of a club I’ve supported all my life. The fans, players, my friends and family all knew how proud and excited I was to take this role.
