Miranda snatched a stoppage time victory for Brazil against Argentina on a sweltering night in Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

The experienced Inter Milan centre-back angled his header into the net at the near post from a corner to secure victory from what was otherwise a relatively drear affair.

Brazil fielded a strong line-up including Neymar, Phillipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino yet they failed to take flight against an Argentinian team deprived of its artillery - Lionel Mesi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Di Maria all missing out on the final leg in the country's Middle Eastern expedition.

Despite the defeat, Lionel Scaloni, Argentina's interim manager, may be the happier of the two managers after his team's gritty performance against a fuller-strength side. Perhaps, Argentina's national team are finally emerging from their protracted dark spell.

Welcome!

Good evening and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of Argentina vs Brazil.

This friendly concludes these side's tours of the Middle East, and what a way to finish it!

Brazil beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 last week, but manager Tite is demanding a better performance, especially against their South American rivals.

"We were not convincing . We won because he had creativity up front and that was it," he said.  "Brazil versus Argentina is never a friendly. We hope to be better for that."

South America's classico kicks off in an hour's time ending the tour of the Middle East for both sides.

It's being played at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah which is one heck of a stadium.

The contest shouldn't be too shabby either...

Argentina have faced Brazil in 106 matches Brazil winning 40, Argentina 38 and 26 times it has been a draw.

Not much difference then between the two sides although Argentina have scored more goals in the fixture; 170 compared to Brazil's 16.

Last time the two sides met was in another international friendly in Melbourne (2017), where Argentina won 1-0.

3 mins: Brazil 0 - 0 Argentina

Saravia does well against Neymar at right back, taking the ball off him before running with it. He runs out of room and sends the ball out of play.
