Man City vs Tottenham: Pep Guardiola in the dark over extent of Kevin De Bruyne's latest injury

The Belgian was forced off with an apparent knee problem in the first half of City's 1-0 win over Spurs

Kevin De Bruyne is a doubt for the rest of the title run-in after limping off during Manchester City's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

De Bruyne limped off in the first half and went straight down the tunnel. He had hurt himself overextending his left leg when shooting for goal, and he will now be assessed to establish whether he felt a hamstring injury or a suspected recurrence of the left knee ligament injury he suffered in November.

Pep Guardiola confirmed in his post-match press conference that De Bruyne will be out for "the next games" but that he did not know the extent or the type of the injury.

"I did not speak with him, did not speak with the doctors," Guardiola said. "I think it's muscular injury, I don't know how big is the impact, we will see tomorrow. I think the next games he will be out."

When asked if he could be confident it was not a recurrence of the knee ligament injury that De Bruyne suffered in November, Guardiola said: "I did not speak, he put the hands on the hamstring position. I think it was that. Really, I did not speak, I did not see him, tomorrow we will know. The media [team] will inform what he has."

City will now face the prospect of having to play the final four league games of their season without De Bruyne, against Manchester United, Burnley, Leicester City and Brighton.

It remains to be see if De Bruyne can return for the FA Cup final against Watford on 19 May.

De Bruyne suffered two knee injuries and a hamstring strain earlier in the season but had found something close to his top form in recent weeks, with stand-out performances against Cardiff City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and in the second leg against Spurs in the Champions League.

He recorded assists in those games that suggested he was getting back to the standards he set last season.
