Is this the world's longest train queue? That's what commuters are asking about the line into Fenchurch Street Station in London.

A commuter recorded a two-minute video, showing hundreds of commuters standing single-file in a line that snaked along several streets outside the central London station.

The video recorded by Ian, whose Twitter handle is @numb15, showed passengers queuing outside in the pouring rain while they waited to access the station during the evening rush hour of Wednesday 28 November.

The queue stretched from outside Fenchurch Street Station, along Fenchurch Street itself and down Mincing Lane, two streets along.

Other commuters shared images of the queue to enter the station – but warned that the queue in reality was far worse.

Staff were using crowd control inside the station, which caused the queue. Many trains out of Fenchurch Street were cancelled or delayed because of various incidents along the line, at Benfleet and Basildon in Essex.

Train company c2c, which operates Fenchurch Street Station, said in a tweet that it was "truly sorry" for the disruption. It also reminded passengers that they could apply for compensation if their journeys had been disrupted.

Fenchurch Street Station, one of the smallest railway termini in London, is a key hub for workers in the City of London. It serves destinations in east London and south Essex including Upminster, Basildon and Southend.
