Royal Navy ship HMS Sutherland battles with huge Storm Gareth waves at sea

HMS Sutherland can be seen cutting through the waves whipped up by Storm Gareth in video shared on its official Twitter page.

Massive waves can be seen in the video crashing over the deck of HMS Sutherland, a Royal Navy frigate launched in 1996 - the 13th of 16 Royal Navy Type 23 frigates.

With the Met Office issuing two yellow warnings for high winds covering Northern Ireland, Wales, most of England, and the west coast of Scotland, gusts of up to 75mph were recorded in Scotland on Tuesday night.

The Met Office said Storm Gareth is continuing to bring a rash of showers across the UK, some of which are heavy and thundery.

Storm Gareth is expected to have moved out into the North Sea by Wednesday evening, although another band of wet and windy weather is set to arrive from the west hours later.
