Barts Pathology Museum colouring book for adults

Adult colouring books are all the craze. But Lauren Hellier insists that is not the reason why she’s sketching hands with Elephantitis, enlarged livers and human hearts.

“Our reasoning for doing this book isn’t just to jump on a bandwagon. It’s completely to engage people with this collection", she explained before beginning her latest drawing of a skull.

Ms Hellier, who goes by the pseudonym Lozzy Bones, is currently working on an adult colouring book based on the collection of human specimens at Barts Pathology Museum in London.

The idea for the book, which is being created with the museum’s curator, Carla Valentine, came not from the current adult colouring trend, but from a desire to increase the museum’s profile.

“This museum is in a hospital and is not open to the public, and it’s unfunded”, she explained.

“By either buying the colouring book, coming to an event, coming to one of our classes – I think it’s really important because you’re supporting those small gems in London that people wouldn’t usually know about."

The final product, which will have between 20 and 30 illustrations, will be published this autumn and sold both online and at the museum.
