Mysterious artist Banksy has reared his head again, this time painting a surprise mural on a wall of a primary school based in Bristol.

A spokesperson has confirmed to The Independent that the artwork is a genuine gift from the artist to Bridge Farm Primary in response to one of the students naming a school house after him.

Teachers and students were met with the surprise upon returning to the building after the half-term break.

Speaking about the artwork, headteacher Geoff Mason described the piece as "inspirational and aspirational". He revealed he has no plans to sell the piece and plans to keep it in good condition.

The artist left a letter explaining his decision to pay the Bristol location a visit.

"If you don't like it, feel free to add stuff," he writes in the note before adding: "It's always easier to get forgiveness than permission."

Before this, Banksy's last piece arrived in December 2015 when he created seven murals in the vicinity of Cannes, France.
