A giant blue cockerel, by the German artist Katharina Fritsch, and a bronze sculpture of a boy on a rocking horse, by Elmgreen and Dragset, are to appear on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson revealed the winning designs yesterday.
The cockerel, designed by German artist Katharina Fritsch, symbolises regeneration, awakening and strength, and will take its place on the plinth in 2013.
