Tacky or just plain weird? Gallery in Hamburg holds exhibition dedicated to bad taste
Show all 6From jewel encrusted mobile phones to USB sticks shaped like human fingers, a new exhibition at a gallery in Hamburg is exposing crimes against design.
The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg will be showcasing some of the most questionable items ever to be created in its exhibition 'Evil Things: An Encyclopaedia of Bad Taste'.
The idea for the exhibition was conceived by the Museum der Dinge (Museum of Things) in Berlin and uses art historian, Gustav E. Pazaurek's system to categorise bad taste.
Pazaurek devised his classification system for bad taste over a century ago, which he published in a pamphlet entitled 'Good and Bad Taste in the Arts and Crafts' in 1912.
Along with creating various categories of bad taste, Pazaurek put together a 'Chamber of Horrors', a collection of objects which served as examples of the different forms of bad taste.
The exhibition in Hamburg will feature around 60 objects from Pazaurek's original collection, along with more contemporary items deemed to be in bad taste.
'Evil Things: An Encyclopaedia of Bad Taste' at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg runs from now until 15 September
