New Harry Potter book covers unveiled by Bloomsbury

It is over 17 years since the first Harry Potter book was released and three years since the final film adaptation - and now the phenomenal wizarding series is enjoying a bit of a makeover.

Bloomsbury Children’s Books have reinvented the hardback and paperback editions of JK Rowling’s magical novels fresh for a new generation of readers.

Each of the seven books charting the adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione, will feature covers designed by award-winning artist Jonny Duddle.

They will also boast an updated author biography and will be reset for a child-friendly reading experience. In a nod to Pottermore, the novels will contain highlights from the website, while eBook editions will also be available on the digital platform.

Duddle, whose picture book The Pirates Next Door won the Waterstones Children’s Prize and was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, was handpicked by both Bloomsbury and Rowling.

The artist said: “I’m hugely excited to work my way through the wonderful books. I couldn’t have asked for more enjoyable subject matter.

"It’s exciting, daunting and I feel the weight of responsibility, and I’m just hoping that my illustrations faithfully reflect the characters and world created by JK Rowling.”

The highly successful Rowling has since carved out a career as an adult writer, with The Casual Vacancy and her crime books written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

The new Harry Potter editions will be published on 1 September.
