Growing to two metres, attaining a speed of 30 mph and emitting a curry-like smell so pungent that they are known as "stinkers", male red kangaroos are among the most remarkable animals on the planet but what a shame that the three-metre giant kangaroo is no more.

This fascinating study explores kangaroo art from Stubbs to Skippy, as well as culture from boxing to kangaroo courts and the "long history of contradiction and paradox" for an animal which has been a national symbol and was a food source (kangaroo brain made a dish called Slippery Bob).
